Came across a very good website which goes into Behaviour shaping and positive reinforcement, for those interested in different ways of teaching. www.equinemindandbody.co.uk/

Yes Elaine,
I actually started my alternative career with clicker training and am still a big supporter of its ideology. I think it is good to use positive reinforcement wherever possible. You are probably aware that there is an ongoing debate as to the efficacy of positive versus negative reinforcement. Positive reinforcement is powerful. I remember my tutor in France saying how he didn't understand how this fitted into the horses psyche!(prey animal and all that stuff) I didn't have a great answer for him those years back but i just knew it worked and its powerful. I now like to combine it as one of my tools and use it where i find it helpful.

I use a lot of PR too, but then I use a lot of NR as well. I think PR is really powerful, but there are very few people in the world who can solely use PR training horses...but then some aspects of training suit it more and some don't.
