Hi! Sorry for the delay in coming back to you, dont as yet have internet at home! Grrrr... I have an arab, a shire cross, and a young cob that I'm working with. I've been doing NH since 2000, and have done some of Kelly Mark's courses, and courses with ex parelly instructors Ken Faulkner and Jayne Lavender. Both are just brill! I'm not sure what standard I'm at because I'm not really into pasing 'stages' or gaining certificates, I just have fun with the horses! It's just fab to be able to ride with just a rope around the horses neck, or (if in enclosed area!) nothing except a saddle. Havent quite got the hang of riding bareback yet... My young cob is only five and hasn't been started yet. He's still getting the hang of the ground skills and not falling over his own feet...funny aren't they? By for now! Silka

Yep, I did the ANH 1 which was great, Cathy our Kiwi instructor goes to Kens clinics every year in Christchurch, and hosts them in the south island, and I've heard great things about Jayne too, but I think she's moving back to Oz soon, which is a pity. We DEFNITELY need pics of your horses What kind of things are you doing with your youngster? I bought mine in March, as a badly barely broken 5yo, so since then I restarted him using most of the level 1 ANH things...... took a while though as when he came he didn't want to be touched anywhere, didn't like headcollars and couldn't be caught! He's lovely now though, and thinks work is actually fun, thus the pic below So what kind of things are you doing with your cob? Dave who's on here too starts horses using groundwork & patience etc, and after about a week they'd nearly talk to you

Hi!
My youngster is called Vinnie..it's a fab name as he is pretty much a gangester. Shades, gangster cars, money racketeering, the works...I'm working on him going forward and following the feel from the rope at the moment. We had a few days where he would explode and try and kick my head in when I asked for a trot transition, which was slightly scarey to say the least, especially when it was combined with dropping his shoulder at me and sliding sideways in to keep me in his kick zone. Anyway when that caused no reaction from me except to keep repeating the transitions until he was a bit more respectful he hasn't been quite as bad since. Needs more work though! He's also learing to go backup from light pressure on his nose, and to listen to one cue one move. His flex is lovely, but front end yields need a lot of input. Thought is was only me but the mare he is with has problems with yielding his front end too and she's very dominant! This hampers his sideways movements somewhat but I can get him to take a couple of steps sideways away from me on the circle if he starts dropping his shoulder at me and creeping in! Little Bugger..I've put liberty work to one side with hime for the time being as his idea of playing is too rough at the moment..
I'm going to try and see if Ken Faulkner can be persuaded to come over here on his rounds next year. I've done two of his 8 day clinics and loads of the three day ones and they are never enough! Jayne has gone back to ozz now, can't blame her when she can take the horses swimming in the sea and its really warm and beautiful...spit! She wants to come over here so I'll see if she will come over and do some teaching next year too..
Lovely pic of your gelding! Lovely colour! Very handsom chap!
Hopefully I'll get our internet up and running soon, we have a landline now so there's some progress! Don't know how to post pics tho...

Oh it would be brilliant if Ken or Jane could come over here, Just what we all need is more imput from different trainers to see their methods.
We all will Imagine them coming to Ireland and they will come . ;D

Yep, getting Ken or Jayne over would be fab! I'm hoping Brad will come over from Oz next summer. He says if he gets enough people interested to cover his airfare and costs, he will come ;D He was one of the ANH instructors with Ken & Jayne, before he branched out on his own. So if anyone wants to host a summer clinic with a few people next summer let me know and I'll organise it

Hi! Sorry I haven't been on this site for a while. have been busy putting down loads of stone as our farm is really wet and boggy..now that's a surprise for west Clare!! I've had a breakthrough with 'The Vin'..have managed to nearly eradicate the explosions that were happening at the end of the line. ;D He's now decided that he can stretch down and stretch out his back and is really quite enjoying it now. He thinks about exploding but all I get is him throwing his head around, so much improvement all round!! His front end yields are still pretty crap but Rome wasn't built in a day.. Someone was asking on this site about horses going barefoot and how they changed etc..my lot have all improved beyond belief with their shoes off, their behaviour really improved and they can all manage the stones. Vin has never been shod and he has lovely feet because of it and doesn't think twice about going over the stones, but the other two definitely think about them but are fine with the rough terrain. Does anyone here do TREC competitions? I don't have any transport at the moment but would like to take up this really fun sport again. Have high hopes for The Vin when he's started, nothing spooks him! Take care, and I'll update some photos when I can finally get on the internet from home.. By now!

Hi! Still no internet at home so unfortunately no pictures of 'The Vin' yet..he's busy practising his poses for the camera so there should be some nice one's for you eventually!! He's in his element at the moment as he now has three geldings with him instead of one bossy mare; he got the upper hand over her as she went lame and was unable to keep him in order so the other two were drafted in to help! So far its worked and the mare is getting sounder by the day so getting back to beating him up regularly.. Vin is going to be learning how to jump soon so that should be fun! I'm invisaging loads of clumbsiness and stumbling through the jumps until he actually learns that he can use those wonderful levitational skills that he has to airlift him over. Also he has such a big tummy which might prevent him going anywhere. Hope you and your horses are all well Silka
