INTRODUCTION TO NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP AND HORSE OWNERSHIP
A course for adults who want to further their basic knowledge about horses and develop their practical skills in handling horses.
Learning outcomes:
• A general working knowledge of equine behavioural psychology
• Skill and confidence in bringing a horse in from the field, grooming, tacking up and turning out.
• Understanding of the common types of behavioural problems in horses and their causes.
• Appreciation of the factors to be considered when buying a horse or pony.
• Knowledge of how to care for a horse of your own.
The course is taught by Clare Rattray, Tipperary Mountain Trekking Centre. Clare lectures part-time at Waterford Institute of Technology and is an AIRE-Approved instructor. She holds the Monty Roberts Preliminary Certificate in Horsemanship and was awarded an ‘Outstanding Horsemanship’ rosette in 2007 by Irish Natural Horsemanship.
The course consists of three two-hour sessions covering a range of theoretical and practical issues. It will run on Monday 3rd, 10th and 17th September from 7.00 – 9.00 p.m.
We can provide entertainment for children aged 4 and over.
COURSE COSTS: €20 per 2-hour session (including refreshments) – TOTAL €60
Children’s entertainment: €10 per child per session (including drinks and healthy snacks)
