Hi Aisling, Are you looking for a structured affair like a bitless bridle or rope hackamore? So good to see you being adventurous and looking to try out new ways. Laura Domenica www.connectedhorsemanship.com

Hiya I get my rope halters from www.lodgeropes.com (lots of colours, lovely folk!) I don't know if you could compete in one.... what are the current SJAI rules for bitting in competiitions? If this is your first halter, it'd be good to do some groundwork in it before you hop on at home, just to get your horse used to it, as it'll feel a good bit different to riding in a bridle for your horse. Bitless wise you can get a bitless bridle (they have a crossover thing at the back, with no bit) but maybe better to try one first, as some horses like them, some don't. There's others too, but its too early on a monday for my brain to think properly!

Personally I think hackamores quite harsh. Why would you consider one better than a mild bit?
