Have you tried the ISPCA Equine rescue centre in Mallow they are just newly opened there last year and specicificaly rescue and rehome equines so they have a selection of ponies and some horses which need homes. Some are only suitable as a companion cannot be ridden or worked for physical reasons while others can . Cathy Wilde is the Centre Manager there.
Otherwise try the ISPCA IN Keenagh Co Longford .
You will get contact no s for both on ISPCA website

Hi, thanks for the mention! Cathy Wilde here from the ISPCA equine rescue centre in Mallow. We have some lovely horses available for re-homing right now, both here and in the NAC in Longford. We have a new link to the horses for re-homing section of the ISPCA website - www.ispca.ie/horses All of the horses seeking new homes have been rescued from abusive situations, one way or another, and would particularly appreciate positive, natural, intelligent, holistic horsemanship! Excuses to any branch I have not mentioned, but you know what I mean - non-violent, respectful handling of horses! There is a list of the criteria we look for when re-homing a horse, this will give you an idea of the system we adopt when placing a horse. I hope anyone reading this would seriously consider giving one of our horse a secure home, particularly the companion horses. I also hope many of you will visit both our Equine Rescue Centres during 2008, both the Cathy's would love to meet you! Cathy
