Hey "intouch" Why would you think that you are behind? It depends what you want to do with your foal. If you don't need to sell straight away, leave them as long as possible with their mothers. Its more natural. There are schools of thought that believe separating foals from their mothers when they are young leads to problems with separation anxiety in later life. be well Lynda

Hi Everyone, I will post these photos as soon as possible. They are beautiful. I did wean them responsibly as there were three foals together. I had a nanny/welsh section a to help out. Their mums where young also, and one older mum (tb). Their mums stopped asking for them after two-three days. One of the foals had a deformed hoof, from a conformation fault. That little one has to go the vet quite regularly for checking and travels with no problems at all.
One point I will say:- Having gone to the vet, and on the way back to the yard. I broke down,..and I could not get anyone..to come and collect the box. As the recovery would only bring the car to the garage. I was on the M7 near Port Laoise,..for hours. I only needed someone with a 4x4 but tried calling people,..no help was forth coming. I did eventually just try Tattersalls. I got some transporters numbers, and anyway "Sam'' from Monstervin, helped me get the mare and foal back to the yard. Thank you very much for your kind help on that day. Surely, with the equine contacts, we could stick together and help each other. I find it is very difficult for people with horses in this country anyway. Very different from U.K. where most people will help if they can.
