Hi everyone, this is a reminder about the 2nd barefoot trimming group get together which will happen on the 14th of May near Tulla, Co. Clare.
Everyone at the first get together agreed that it would be useful to have an opportunity to see a variety of relatively healthy hooves, to learn how to use the tools more effectively and to get tips of dealing with horses who don't lift their feet well. It was felt by all that these would be great foundations for learning and so we have planned a day at Kiltannon Home Farm in Tulla with that in mind. Gina Sivyer will be hosting the day which will get going at 10am on Saturday the 14th and will run till about 5pm. If people can't arrive at 10am that is absolutely fine. You can join in when you can.
Lucinda Stockley who is an equine dentist and experienced trimmer will be there to answer questions and Gina will be bringing in a variety of horses for people to handle and to do small amounts of trimming on for anyone who is interested. Among these will be some younger horses who are not as used to having their feet picked up. As with the first get together this is about sharing information and ideas between everyone who attends whether of a beginner or advanced variety. This is not an instructional day, but one where we all share our knowledge. Lucinda will obviously be able to add quite a lot to the level of experience that will be gathered on the day and there were a few people at the 1st get together who were also very experienced and I know a lot of my own questions were answered there. Hopefully you can come again! The idea with the 2nd get together is to get stuck in and start asking each other questions. If you come armed with specific questions that would be great too.
There has been a huge amount of interest in this group and if you know anyone else who would like to be involved please pass on the information. The more people that we can share ideas and knowledge with the better our horses will be looked after. It is obvious that there are plenty people in Ireland who are very hungry for information and to be able to do the best for their horses and I think that simply linking up with other like minded people will go a long way to filling that need. As ideas come up we will plan future events to fill the information gaps.
Things to bring - packed lunch, your own tools, and questions.
Directions - see the attached file for directions from Ennis and Tulla directions. If you need more information drop me a line.
This is a free event and the only thing we need to make it a good day is enthusiasm, ideas and keeping us informed of whether you can make it or not. If we know how many people are coming we can plan the day really well.
All the very best and I look forward to seeing you soon,
