Figured out in Perth how to work on soft trot, as before working with ozs boundaries, working with what he offers and one day he'll offer a fraction more, as worked really well with oz before. Also, as steve said oz used to be a scared horse. Still working through this a little, and when softness is elusive its cos he's not emotionally ready, a little worried or not quite in his comfort zone. Absolutely. The more we work together the less emotional and softer he gets and the more he offers.

Day one over. Groundwork with kola in the morning, riding kola in the afternoon strange working with a different horse and initially was wondering why our walk and trot on loose rope were good but halt from walk wasn't working well at liberty, ie wasnt working at all really. Then realised I was a twit, and wasn't WITH the horse so instead paid way more attention to stay with horse and like Oz, work with what he offers rather than force an issue and low and behold there was our nice halt, our feet moving together. Lovely horse. Hopped up bareback after about 10 mins happy out Then riding - kola can do moves with more softness with Oz, Oz gets stuck way more and kola can do a whole series of manoeuvres with softness without getting stuck. Also can daydream on kola, something I can't do on Oz. I walked the line did some gorgeous soft light 180 fq yields once I remembered to turn my shoulders and got a good handful of ridden exercises from today to do with Oz when im home, including working towards circles with no reins. Lovely day. Strange though not seeing hettie ride Oscar or maura on Samsun, so not quite the same doc is good but taking life easy.

Day 2. 1 rein riding working on sidepassing with the horses head turned where you want him to go. Did some fancy rope twirling on horseback while switching hands.
Riding two reins- worked a little and got some AMAZING turns just by moving my shoulders. And better than that when i tried at the start the turns were a bit stuck! I will be able to try same on the Oz. just incredible lightness. Also kola has gorgeous soft feel in bridle but hasn't done much of this in the halter. Have this to crack with Oz too. So got steves help and after 15 mins of walk and rests got some lovely soft feel in walk in halter. Did some fab very fast 180 fq turns, a few action pics floating around somewhere. Great day, more stuff to do with Oz when I'm home.
Kolas a legend. Wanted the inside of his ear scratched at the end.

Also liberty - holy moly!!!! Kola walked, trotted, stopped, turned, and jumped and obstacles with me all around the arena and the other horse moving around. A bit humbling to have this gorgeous horse sticking right beside you no matter what.

Day 4 and new horse Kai. A bit of a character reminded me of Oz. Did liberty, hooned around a bit, very soft when I get my cues in time it's like channelling a flow of energy, everything just works together. A few pennies dropped today for me.

Day 5 - I spent early morning doing groundwork and liberty remembering to remind myself to stay with my horse and got on well. Will have to remind myself to-remember this at home as well. For riding, more influencing each foot in walk and trot, work to get balanced circles throughout, backup in circles then rollback, kai absolutely gorgeous. In the afternoon played polocrosse then went for fab hack for a few hours in the bush, saw massive horrible spiders and a few Roos. A million miles from Dublin day off tomorrow, off to Jacobs creek then some technological horse stuff tomorrow avo.

Obstacles courses, weaving through stuff, backup, fq yields, sidepass, onto plank, polocross with hands to catch the ball circles. Then just used my seat no touching the neck as much as possible. STOKED!!!!! Finished off with 10 secs of libertywith the two palominos, one either side!!!!!!!

G'day all, It really is a small world.... Over the weekend, Riggzy & I drove 9 hours with 2 horses to a Medieval Fair in South Australia as a part of the Kings Horses Medieval Equestrian Society to perform skill at arms & jousting displays. Riggzy is the star of the show and i am more like Baldrick to his BlackAdder (just much bigger & hairier than Baldrick:0). As we were only a couple of hours from Silversands, Riggzy arranged for a few hours with Steve hoping to get a new view on some areas of horsemanship. We arrived sunday afternoon after 4 shows and little sleep since Thursday and were introduced to the students that had just finished a 10 day clinic with Steve, among them was Elaine from Ireland. After some time the penny dropped, it was "THE" Elaine from Ireland. Elaine, If you are home now and over the jet lag, I want to say how pleased I was to meet you after knowing you thru email & forums. Also thank you for the interview for the radio program, it will go to air 8pm (eastern standard time) Thursday 5th May and is streamed live on www.goldfieldsfm.org.au. Not sure how that translates to your local time but there are time convertors online. I am sure OZ will enjoy the benefits of the trip. Regards Rob LodgeRopes
