Hi everyone,
We will be setting up a barefoot trimming group in the next few weeks and I am throwing the idea out to every one who has an interest in this.
Whether you are only thinking of beginning to trim yourself, or are doing some of the trim, or all of the trim, or are a professional we aim to simply get together and to chat. We will share ideas, tips, ask questions, share resources etc. We will be doing a bit of trimming and then we can all talk about it afterwards, to get feedback, solve issues etc.
In the future we will be organising some workshops if there are enough people in the group - getting people in from the UK as well as Ireland.
The more questions you have the better, but if you have some answers too that would be most welcome.
If you have any suggestions and ideas please add them here and hopefully we can get together to improve our standards of trimming.
Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Maria

I'm very interested. Where will these 'gettogethers' be please? Oh, I'm a dabbling owner btw not a professional. I have a few books and DVD's to share so long as they are well looked after.

I'm desperate for some knowledge please!!! I have 2 that are barefoot & no BFT, yet I'm not doing them myself! I don't like to upset the farrier by telling him what he can & can't touch - so need to get doing things myself ASAP! Needless to say, Count me in!

I thought I left a reply, but it has not appeared here. Anyway,
we are going to try for either the sat 19th or 26th of March. Let me know if you guys can make that. The first one will be near Tulla and then we will rotate around a bit.
There will be a mixture of people in the group from quite experienced to complete novice - so hopefully we can all get something out of it.
Let me know if those days work and we will take it from there,

Excellent stuff. We are trying to find a day that suits from the following options - 19th or 20th, 26th or 27th of March. This will be near Tulla in Co. CLare.
Let me know if any of those days suit - it might be more likely to be the later date. I'll send on all details etc when it is all sorted.
Liam - what is your experience level if any? I'm trying to get an idea of what kind of people will be coming - so far there is a mixture.
Amanda - that is great. I think this is going to be very popular so I hope we can set something up this month and get it going.

Looks like that's about 3 hours drive for me. For us too. Courtingthehorse will there be a charge or is that to be decided depending on what future groups want? Just need to cost as we will come the day before and stay over... I have to confess to being a bit excited.

Hi Amanda, there will be no cost at all. It is an informal get together where we can discuss some issues etc and see where we all are.
In the future workshops may be arranged but that would be a seperate issue.
I'm super excited too, can't wait.
zy - do you think you can still come? we aim to do it once a month, so perhaps you can come some of the time. Also, we can all keep in touch by email etc if that is decided as a good idea.

Can possibly still do it - Saturdays are better for me & Sun 27th is a definite no.

Hi Maria, I took the shoes of my horse last year and had to reshoe him four months later(really sore feet). I am trying again at the moment, three months now and all's well so far. I have been using my normal farrier but he has no specific training with barefoot. Sean has been showing me some basic principles and I will take up the rasp to do a light trim but I need to know a lot more before I'd feel competent. Lets hope there's enough interest for us to push ahead, any of the suggested dates would be ok for me.

Ok, It looks like it will either be the 26th or the 27th of March. Let me know if this suits and we will go with the day that suits most people.
Looking forward to meeting up...
Liam, that sound like the position a lot of people are in - just starting out. Thankfully there is a lot of interest in the group so we will def get together in March.

If it's barefoot, I'd like to join. My seven horses have been barefoot for 3 years, now and I am trimming them myself. Still have a lot to learn, though. I have started a barefoothorses.ie site. Any comments, suggestions, or even better, contributions are verly welcome. Also, I am hoping to organise workshops with a few good people from the UK if anyone's interested, let me know.

Chevalfou - it's definitely a barefoot trimming group. With seven horses you must have a good bit of experience with the trimming so it will be great to have your opinions etc. I'd be interested in workshops in the future too, so count me in - budget permitting Good work on the site, I'll try to think of some suggestions...

Also, I am hoping to organise workshops with a few good people from the UK if anyone's interested, let me know. Jaime Jackson's book 'Founder, Prevention and Cure The Natural Way' is a great book imo to add to your books list. Aka the little red book. I'm interested in the workshops, again, funds allowing. Where might they be based? I'll have a good look at your site later, great what I've seen so far. Somehow actually getting together is in itself a motivator, I'm looking forward to the group too courtingthehorse. Btw, love your website too. I'd be interested in info/recommended reading on clicker for foot handling especially. My first attempt wasn't a great success despite targetting etc. going well.

DATE DECIDED - the 26th of March at 2pm near Tulla, co. Clare. OUTLINE - probably meet for about 3-4 hours. So there should be enough time to get to know each other a bit, talk about our ideas about the meetings and trimming, watch a film and discuss it. Let me know if you can come and I will send you directions by PM. Amanda, I have a book on clicker training that you can have a look at if you make it to the get together. I'm not sure how much it goes into feet lifting though. I have used clicker training to transform how out two girls pick up their feet, so I would def perservere. They were both impossible to do for various reasons, now, I can't believe how willing they are. I can certainly tell you what I did and see if it helps in your situation at all. Hope to meet you all in a few weeks oh and thanks for the feedback on the site - if you have any suggestions and requests let me know.
