Our clinic on Sunday the 7th will be graced by the presence of a local farrier and the man who maintains my bare foot horses Tim Cahill who will come and demonstrate on some horses here and also talk about the pro's and con's of bare foot horses and shod ones.
Dermot McCourt who is one of if not the best man in the country for horses feet, has agreed to run a workshop here, dates will be arranged soon, hopefully will be toward mid November.
'Dermot is a remedial equine podiatrist, who has worked and trained in Saudi Arabia and also with several AANHCP practitioners in the United States. He started working with traditional farriery methods, but his career developed to working with severe foot problems - correcting damage to return horses to being sound.
Dermot specialises in barefoot trimming to alleviate and cure navicular syndrome and laminitis.
Barefoot trimming is NOT merely a shoeless horse. The foot is prepared to return to the state that would be produced in a horse in the wild. Domestication has meant that the horse's hoof is not subjected to the wear and tear that actually maintains the foot in it's natural state. When the foot is prepared to mimic the natural state - the hoof is able to withstand work on almost any terrain.'
See hoofsculpture.com for more about him..

Okay guys, I have provisionaly booked Sat 11th of december with Dermot Mccourt for a bare foot trimming workshop.. He will be travelling down from Antrim with his son who is in training under him. They will work with 8 horses in the day while teaching and helping people with any questions and queries. As he is travelling so far I really do need names and deposits before the end of this month.. If you want to bring a horse it will be 80 euro, or to come and watch and learn 60 euro, we are doing this not for a profit as all the money made is to cover Dermot and his sons costs. Anyone with hoof problems?? Laminitis, seedy toe, white line disease etc? Want to learn how to maintain your horses bare foot? Having issues staying barefoot? All these things and more is what they will be covering in a day.. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are coming, ring me on 0851404320
Looking forward to a busy weekend!
Oh by the way I need to confirm the venue so will keep you all posted....
