2010 Irish Horse Welfare Trust Fundraiser
The Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT) is the leading horse welfare charity in Ireland. Its patrons are Jessica Harrington, Jessica Kurten, Aidan O’Brien, Lady O’Reilly, Sir Peter O’Sullevan (CBE), Rodney Watson (MBE) and Tracy Piggott. The IHWT rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes neglected and abused horses and ponies countrywide, currently caring for around 60 equines. The IHWT also operates Ireland’s only retraining and re-homing programme for ex-racehorses, of which 14 are currently in residence. To continue and develop all this vital rescue work, the IHWT is dependent on grants, donations and monies derived from fund-raising events.
In addition, having operated from rented premises for over ten years, the IHWT recently purchased its own premises in Woodenbridge, Co Wicklow through a successful capital appeal. A shortfall occurred, however, at the close of sale and an amount of €280,000 must be raised. It is hoped that the Internet Auction will help to achieve this. The auction comprises around 100 items, generously donated by industry participants and individuals, which should appeal to a wide range of racing and equestrian enthusiasts.
