;D Following Sean's suggestion I'm just seeing if we can generate any interest in some nice long rides. I have worked as a ride leader in the Dingle peninsula, and around Kilgarvan and Kenmare and I know of various 2-6 hour rides across mountains and beaches and I also have contacts in these places where we could keep horses for the night, we had an amazing trek in Sligo with Ciara and the Bogtrotters which could also be an option. I have a good friend in Clare in the Burren where there are some great rides
What we could do is arrange a date and time get 4 or 5 riders together (all with your own or borrowed horse) and do a day or 2 or 3 of trail riding exploring this beautiful country
You would have to be responsible for yourself and your horse (insurance is always wise), be prepared for hot or cold weather, on some rides there are pub stops and on others a pack lunch is needed, or a fishing rod and a camp fire in some cases:) and if its in the Kerry area I can take care of accommodation (for horse and rider)
Obviously you would have to arrange your own way of getting to the destination too...
The rides with the Bogtrotters would need to be arranged through Ciara, and I don't know whether you can take your horse or rent one of their lovely lot
Its an idea we can play around with, your horse does need to be physically fit for this and his feet (whether shod or barefoot) must be in good shape, it would be good if your horse is well behaved as we don't want any accidents to you or anyone else, they should be good in traffic as there are always bits of roadwork on the way.
If we prepare well and ride with our halters and ropes as well as bridles, we could have opportunities to solve problems as they arise, such as crossing rivers, going in the sea etc...
I have numbers of vets and farriers in the areas I know and also possible replacement horses in case of lameness
Anyway I could go on but first lets see if any of you are up for it
