I was with Mia this evening and I noticed that one of her incisors was missing. I know their temporary lateral incisors are replaced by permenant ones when they're about 3.5 years old, which Mia is, so after my initial pissedoffedness (yes, its a word!) that somehow one of her teeth had been knocked out i realised thats what it must've been.
i can see some tooth, i don't know if its part of the tooth thats just fallen out or part of a new tooth to come through, but her gum around the area seems a wee bit red and a touch swollen. Should i get the vet out to take a look in case all of the tooth didn't come out? or is this normal?
i'm a very worried mommy!!

That sounds very normal, just like a child looses & replaces baby teeth. It would do no harm to have her checked out by an EDT, just to make sure there are no "caps" on her back teeth, also it's good to let them know that having teeth done isn't scarey, when they are unlikely to need much work. Our rising 3 yo had his done a couple of months ago, he was really good but the bad news is he has wolf teeth - but as he won't be bitted for a while, that will keep. A 3 yo mare we had done at the same time had caps AND wolf teeth! Lesley

thanks guys! i had a good proper look at it yesterday, she kindly obliged me, and all seems ok. the new tooth is coming down through the gum fine and it doesn't seem to bother her in the slightest. Her other lateral incisor seems loose now too so she'll be a real gummy bear if that goes soon! Was saying to my mum lastnight that it looks like she should be making her communion with her gappy teeth!! Poor girly!
