With horses it can be easy to be put into a situation where a professional is asking you to do something you're not 100% sure about, but as they are the 'professional' you go along with it. That might not always be the right choice. This video is a must see. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcvSNg0HZwk

I like to think I would be strong enough not to do something like this but actually if i am to be 100% honest, I have a similar tale to tell. I made the mistake of trusting an instructor who had more experience than me by letting them ride my horse when giving me a lesson. I didnt tell them to get off even when I could see that they were causing him pain and I really hated watching what they were doing. But because the person claimed to know so much, and had been recommended by so many people, I didnt have the guts to say 'get off my horse now'. I didnt want the others watching to think I though I knew it all. Eventually I did ask her to get off but not until it was far too late. It took me about 3/4 months to get my horse back to where he had been before. But I learned a very important lesson that day, and it certainly was not what was being thought by the instructor. Your link to that very interesting experiement just reminded me of that situation.

Its a tough one. When you're learning you are in the role of student and thus naturally defer to your teacher, and do what they say to do so you can learn their ways. Its not till you've been around the block a few times you can actually start recognising what teachers you really want to learn from. Maybe its a reason teachers who train kids or new riders, should actually be the best in the whole business.

Im terrible, I dont like upset people. I had an incident a couple of months ago where the farrier shouted at my horse, she is very sensitive and you cant ever tell her off she gets in a complete state over it. Luckily YO stepped in and told him you cant shout at her while I was busy differing over it not wanting to upset the farrier So in my case its not that they are the pro so i go along with it, im just a wuss about upsetting ppl *note to self must learn to me more assertive*
