Looking for a pony, maybe a Connemara gelding, must be broken and riding, very calm and have a great temperament, who we can ride around our fields and along quiet local roads between fields.
We have plenty of land, a great home, and looking to put one pony (for starters) on it. This pony will be shared between two novice riders, I rode years ago at a riding school but not in a long time, and am out of practice with handling a pony.
So this pony must be suitable for beginners, who have never owned a pony before.
I'm 5'7" and 9 stone. The other rider is smaller and lighter.
I suppose we’re looking for something around 15hh? Open to suggestions.
The most important aspect is that the pony is bombproof, relaxed, friendly and easy to handle.
Not too big of a budget to spend, but would love to receive some offers.
In South Mayo region (close to North Galway).

Hi Roc and welcome, I'm sure you'll get lots of good advice on this forum! I hate to put a damper on your enthusiasm to own your own pony, but may I suggest that you don't rush into horse ownership. It's a very big step, and a very big responsibility. Maybe set yourself a goal to think about buying in a couple of years time, and in the meantime, go to as many clinics and lessons as you can. Then when you feel you really have enough experience to do justice to your horse, still don't be in a rush! So many novices make the mistake of buying, and then find their genuine, kind, quiet novice's pony turns into an unmanageable monster in a few months, and ends up being a field ornament, or worse, on the road to Eastern Europe. If a pony doesn't have good management, he will feel he needs to take control - and that's when the trouble starts. So please don't take this wrongly, it's meant kindly, both for you and your future pony. Watch this forum for news of upcoming clinics and get out there and learn all you can - then in a couple of years, you and your new pony can really enjoy a fun life together!
