ROCKIN S SALE - minimum 25% price reduction - single joints £40 - three pieces £45 - Ported £48
I am clearing out my stock of these bits. I use them on every single one of my horses and I still haven't found anything better (especially for young horses). They are the best, but I have a few too many projects on right now and need to stop doing a few things.
The Rockin S story
I'd been watching Mark Rashid work with horses for several years. No secret - I like the way he works and so when he's over here I use his visits as a big part of my education. So one day Mark is working with this horse and he suddenly says 'maybe your horse would go better in one of these bits.' Not many words I'll admit but boy they floored me. One of my absolutely favourite things about Mark was all he ever tried to sell was a water lariat he made from bailer twine. Horsework is about getting things right between you and the horse, not about buying this special halter and this special gadget - for me his stance on that alone helped mark him out from the crowd. So out comes this bit called the Rockin S snaffle and Mark starts to tell a really good story about how he came across the bit. By now I'd picked myself up from the floor and was listening to the story and I was thinking 'my what a shame, now there's only me left.'
On the way home I was discussing the bit scenario with Sarah and we both agreed that no way would Mark endorse something if it didn't make a difference so we decided, yeah ok, we'd buy one to try.
To cut a long story short, we bought one and we tried it and guess what it works really well with most horses.
So what's so special about the Rockin S? Well because of the way the bit rings are designed the actual mouthpiece sits really still in the horse's mouth. Also because the reins attach to the moving D attached to the rings all your signals from the reins act centrally on the mouthpiece of the bit. Also incidental rein movement is minimised for the same reason. Once you see how it works you can see that where the reins attach on most bits actually creates leverage on the bit ring. We have found the bit really good with youngsters - it is clear for them to understand and if they brace against it, it does not pull through. It is also well worth trying this bit with any horse that maybe seems to be struggling to accept a bit in his mouth. Because it sits still in the mouth it can just be the difference for some horses.
The single joint bits come in three sizes - 5 inch, 5.5 inch and 6 inch.
