Hi guys,
I haven't been on here for a while due to being really busy and having a few ups and downs.
The really sad news is - I had to have my little pony Charley PTS about 5 weeks ago I rescued him about 11 years ago from a farm where he was badly neglected. His feet were really overgrown and he had had laminitis. We mostly managed to keep on top of it, but he got it a few more times, and each time he got it it was got easier and easier, until in the end the tiniest bit of grass or change in diet gave it to him ( it was also suggested I never give him carrots or apples or treats ever ). This time it didn't ease up from box rest either. After lots of thinking and talking to a friend who trained as a vet, we made the difficult decision. I just don't have the time or facilities ( like a sand arena or similar ) to keep him if he couldn't have any grass or turnout, and we thought he would not be happy to be confined and have only soaked hay. Also Mani won't go out on her own so it wasn't fair on her. It was really a horrible thing to have to do, and we still really, really miss him.
Charley -
The good news is that I am getting another Icelandic horse as company for Mani. Her name is Frida and she is 6 years old but has never done a thing except go out with the herd. So I have a new project - to start training her right from the beginning. Mani was already backed when I got her, so this is my first time to start a horse completely and I am really excited
We were supposed to be moving to Scotland but it all fell through - we still had to move house, but we are still in Ireland, so hopefully I will see some of you at one of the fundays. Looking forward to getting lots of help from you guys and maybe I will be able to bring Frida to one of the fundays.
Happy new year and happy horsing to all ;D
Michelle
