Hi,
Just wanted to tell you how much fun Mani and I had on Saturday.
We went to our first TREC competition, actually first anything competition. We had to get up really early and drive for 2.5 hours to get to Gurteen college in North Tipp.
If any of you haven't heard of it before here is the TREC Ireland website :
www.trecireland.com
It goes from level 1 for beginners, to level 4 for championship level - we were only doing level 1 - so it wasn't too hard !
In the morning we had the obstacle course which was great fun. They used part of the college cross country course ( small jump, water crossing, gate, step up etc) and set up there own obstacles ( bending poles, s bend, back up and ride through poles etc ) . ;D
Then you have to do control of paces - slow canter and fast walk without breaking into a trot.
Then after lunch, and a rest for Mani we did the orienteering on horseback, which unfortunately was all on the roads, but still nice.
Mani was so good and really well behaved, and we got a 2nd rosette for one of the phases.
I would really reccommend it to anyone who likes having a bit of fun with their horse, as even though it is a competition, you don't have to be really competitive to do it. Just have a good all round horse. All the obstacles are really handy to be able to do as they are things you might come across on a hack.
The orienteering bit is usually done in pairs so if any of you are interested in pairing up with me for the next competition ( not sure when the next level 1 is ) then let me know.
Michelle
I will see if I can manage to put a few pics of us up later !
